Dave Llewellyn Dixon Fundraiser to help the unfortunate Children at Ricks Institute High School in Liberia, West Africa

My alumni association, Ricks Institute Alumni Association, USA, Inc. (RIAA-USA), is working to help students at our alma mater overcome the odds for a brighter future. We want to continue to bring love, care and nurture to these students through our dedication to provide scholarships and undertake building projects. I know you may be overwhelmed with charitable contributions these days, but I want to share my personal charitable quest for my alumni association. The time has come to kick off my annual alma mater fundraising campaign! Instead of presents, cards, or other luxuries given me on special days (e.g. birthday, Christmas, etc.) that I don’t need, I’m asking the people I love to help me achieve my financial goal of $10,000 and bring quality education to those who desperately need it. Please note that RIAA-USA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. Your donation will be automatically deposited into RIAA-USA’s bank account and tracked and reported as part of my cumulative giving. Description

The Ricks Institute Alumni Association, USA, Inc, a non-profit 501(C) (3) organization, was founded in 1988 by alumni living in the United States. One of the key objectives of the organization is to provide financial and other assistance to Ricks Institute in Virginia, Liberia in order to return the institution to the high levels of academic excellence it was founded on. Over the years, RIAA, Inc has contributed hundred of thousands of dollars (cash and kind – books, microscopes, generators, computers, etc) to the school.
Ricks Institute is a victim of the 14-year old civil war in Liberia. The school is now operational due to the support of the Alumni Association and other friends of Ricks. However, due the economic downturn, and the fact that 80% of the population is unemployed, it is a challenge meeting the most basic needs of the school. Adequate textbooks and educational materials are not available, and the teachers’ salaries are not fully funded. Key needs include the support of programs such as post war trauma counseling, funding tuitions for the homeless and orphaned students, rehabilitation of the agriculture program, rebuilding and refurbishing damaged infrastructures, providing electricity and clean water to the campus, sporting programs, technology and science programs, teachers training, scholarships, and classroom and library materials. Historically, tuition revenue was the main source of financial support to the institution. However, given the current economic condition of Liberia, Ricks looks to donations and in-kind gifts to keep it running. Your generosity can help us give Liberian children who have suffered the ravages of war a new beginning in order to become productive citizens for tomorrow. Because many of the students have lost their parents and guardians, the school gives them a sense of hope and belonging. We are passionate about the work we are doing for the children of Liberia and we hope that you can also serve as a channel through which these great works can be accomplished.  The deadline for donation is August 30, 2023.
